O'Sullivan in running for Sale hot seat

FORMER Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan is being considered for the role of director of rugby at Sale.

Gloucester coach Bryan Redpath was reported to be nailed down as the next coach but chief executive Steve Diamond said interviews were ongoing this week -- and O'Sullivan is understood to be one of a number of candidates being assessed.

"I'm interviewing on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, I'm at Manchester Airport more than the stewardesses are at the moment," said Diamond.

Other candidates include ex-Japan and Italy coach John Kirwan, while Diamond is also believed to have been in contact with under-pressure Auckland Blues boss Pat Lam -- Kirwan and Lam were both on Munster's extended shortlist before it was narrowed down.

On January 6, the Irish Independent reported how O'Sullivan's representatives had contacted Sale to declare his interest in a role with the English club and -- with Diamond last week announcing ambitious expansion initiatives -- it could be an ideal position for the ex-Ireland and US coach, who has been looking for a suitable position since the World Cup.
