IRISH rugby legend Donncha O’Callaghan has recorded his support for sex bans on sportsmen before critical games.

O’Callaghan (32) who is married to his long time love Jennifer Harte, said sex-starved rugby players are like “men possessed” when they enter the field, according to a report in today’s Irish Daily Star.

“We normally stay away from our partners when we are in the Irish camp and to be fair, we play like dogs with rabies when we go out,” he said in an interview on the Ray D’Arcy show on Today FM.

“We are like men possessed and I think it’s not a bad way to go – abstaining could be the future.”

He was speaking after Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni revealed that he has no problem with his 23 players enjoying the company of their loved ones at the Euro 2012 tournament in Poland and Ukraine next summer.

However he said that their meetings will be confined to after the matches.

“There is time for the family and wife, but it is important to work on the job of playing football,” he said.
