Murphy strikes either side of break to wrap up victory for Gonzaga
Vinny Murray Cup
Left-wing Sean Murphy showed his finishing ability by claiming two tries in Gonzaga's comfortable 17-5 Section B quarter-final win over CUS at Stradbrook yesterday.
Ireland U-19 Schools outside-centre Daniel Diviney was the main playmaker for the opener for right-wing Richard Lenehan in the first minute.
Murphy touched down in the 17th and 51st minutes before CUS's captain Mark Darby grounded the ball from a line-out and drive for their consolation.
Centre Gary Foxton bagged a brace of tries as St Andrew's College easily eclipsed Templeogue College 33-12 at the Iveagh Grounds.
Foxton's speed was a feature of the game as his two five-pointers came from some distance out to add to three first-half efforts from wing Michael Ruttle, centre Adam McDonagh and tight-head Jake Cawley.
The losers were rewarded with tries from loose-head Sean Carroll and lock Graham Bennett.
CBC Monkstown's ability to take their opportunities made all the difference in their hard-fought 10-3 win over Skerries Community College at Station Road.
Skerries out-half Paul O'Loghlen struck a third-minute penalty for a slender lead they could not hold. It all came down to unconverted tries from centre Robert Hallam and wing Conor Martin in the 39th and 59th minutes.
Out-half Michael Halpin was 'johnny on the spot' for the two tries that sent Newpark Comprehensive into the last four by virtue of their 15-3 triumph over of De La Salle, Churchtown at Railway Union.
The foundations were laid by captain Sean Reynolds and lock Raef Garland. But, it was Halpin who stole the show with all the points.
