UL Bohs eager to sink Shannon and retain Charity Cup crown

Declan Rooney

UL BohS and Shannon will get the perfect pre-season work-out when they meet in the Limerick Charity Cup final tomorrow at Clifford Park (2.30).

Defending champions Bohs will hope to retain their crown against cross-city rivals Shannon, but with both sides set to kick off their Munster Senior Cup campaigns the following week, they will be primed for a good start to their AIL seasons.

Both Limerick sides were relegated from Division 1A last season and will be extra keen to reclaim their top-flight status.

Shannon, who have never played outside the top division, get their campaign up and running with a trip to Dublin to take on newly-promoted Terenure College, while Shannon welcome Blackrock College to Coonagh.

On Leeside, the Cork Charity Cup final will pit Cashel against either Cork Constitution or Highfield.

And with Young Munster waiting in the Senior Cup, Cashel should be able to hit the ground running when they welcome Banbridge to Spafield in their Division 2A opener.

Elsewhere, there was an impressive win for fellow Division 2A side UCC over Sundays Well in a pre-season friendly.

Another Munster side to compete in the same division – Old Crescent – will have been disappointed to miss out on the Limerick Charity Cup decider after they went down to UL Bohs.
