Sherry on double in Cork
Munster 32 London Irish 28
Mike Sherry crossed for two tries as Munster got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start over Declan Kidney's London Irish at Irish Independent Park last night.
On the first game played on the newly-laid 3G surface at the Cork venue, local boy Darren Sweetnam bagged Munster's first try shortly after the visitors took the lead through Matt Williams' breakaway effort on 12 minutes.
After that score Munster bossed the game for long periods and it was no shock when Brian Scott scored Munster's second while Dan Goggin crossed before the break to put them well ahead.
Oliver Hoskins hit back just before the interval off a rolling maul for London Irish, although JJ Hanrahan's drop goal ensured Munster were 20-14 up at the break.
After the resumption, new signing Mike Haley got a run-out and Munster stretched their advantage when Sherry bagged his first try of the night off the back of a maul, which was converted by replacement Ian Keatley, and his second try came in a similar fashion five minutes from time.
