Everyone at Munster Rugby was sad to see a club legend like Donnacha Ryan depart for France last summer but little did they know he would prove their undoing in the Champions Cup the following season.

He gave an incredible performance for Racing 92 in their 34-30 win over Munster at the U Arena last Sunday.

It was a typical Donnacha Ryan performance too, you could see that he constantly geed up his team-mates. It was the performance of a real leader.

You could see how instrumental he was in forcing the crucial penalty in the closing stages, which secured victory for Racing.

It is such a hard one to take when he played with Munster for many years and then he turned the screw against them in such a big game this season.

It's difficult when you go to a club, you are injured and feel a little bit out of it. Yet he has come into it, and with a big win against Clermont last week and now Munster, all of a sudden Racing have huge momentum.

Ryan seems to be a spiritual leader there already. It's massive to have a player of his ability on the pitch. And it will be great for Simon Zebo to have someone he knows over there who he can relate to. But that will be scant consolation for Munster.
