Declan Kidney will make a return to Munster as his London Irish team face Johann van Graan’s side in their first pre-season game on their new 3G pitch at Irish Independent Park.

Kidney, who won Heineken Cups as Munster manager in 2006 and 2008, was announced as the new Director of Rugby for London Irish last week and his first test will come against his old Club in his native Cork.

The game will take place on Friday, August 17 and is expected to attract a big crowd.

The teams will contest the Jack Wakefield Memorial Trophy, named after a young London Irish supporter who sadly passed away in 2005, which is played for when Irish provinces play against London Irish.

Also announced was Munster’s first ever clash with Exeter Chiefs which will take place on Friday August 24, also at the Irish Independent Park.

Both games which will be played at 7.30pm, will test Munster and give an indication of where the province is in terms of development early in the 2018/19 season.
