'I'm a very proud Munster man and Irishman' - Peter O'Mahony on why 'silly' interview question made him angry

The moments after the final whistle are perhaps not the best time to ask a man who exudes intensity if his team - who had just been well beaten - lacked some, eh, intensity. So when former Leinster captain Reggie Corrigan, on duty yesterday for TG4, went down this route with Munster's Peter O'Mahony, he ran into a road block straight away.

By the time the Munster captain fetched up to the press conference about 40 minutes later, he hadn't mellowed too much.

"I think it's a silly question, essentially calling myself and my team-mates out and questioning do we want it enough," he said of the pitch-side interview. "Myself - I'm a very proud Munster man and Irishman and that's at the core of everything. Everything is based around work-rate and you want to win, and for someone to question that, I'd take huge offence at it."

So, for O'Mahony it was a frustrating day, a 23-17 defeat to Leinster topped off with what he inferred to be an insult. His side have a bit of catching up to do before their European Champions Cup tie in Castres next Sunday. He's happy they can take that step. "One hundred per cent, with a week's training. Look, we got a lesson in a few things today. A few other teams gave us some good lessons last year."

This fixture is a lesson stuck on repeat mode with Leinster winning all but one of the last 11 fixtures in the Aviva And they were worth more than the six points that separated the sides before a crowd of 46,374.

Along the way man of the match Johnny Sexton overtook Felipe Contepomi as Leinster's record points-scorer, and his five from five shots on goal here puts him on 1,231. "I'm delighted for Johnny," Leo Cullen said afterwards. "I was surprised he turned away so many shots at goal for kicks to the corner last week! He's shown a lot of resilience to come back at various stages, and he's worked hard since returning from the Lions."

Cullen was non committal about the fitness for Europe next Saturday - against Montpellier - of absentees Isa Nacewa and Seán O'Brien. Even if they don't make it, Cullen's side are not too short of options.
