The Munster U-18 Girls got their campaign off to a winning start by defeating their Leinster counterparts 17-14 in Ballincollig last weekend and tomorrow face Connacht in Ballinasloe, with the final game away to Ulster on Saturday, October 7.

Head coach Colm McMahon guided the Munster U-19s to two away wins over Connacht and Ulster, winning 43-8 at the Sportsground and 22-21 in Osborne Park. However, an opening round one-point defeat at home to Leinster proved costly in the chase for a series title as the men in blue went on to claim the honours on that front.

It was an overall disappointing campaign for the Munster U-18 Schools with three defeats and one win.

Coming up short in a 34-22 loss at Donnybrook, Mark Butler's charges bounced back against Ulster the following week to edge it 10-9 in a tight and tense affair at Thomond Park. A 23-point deficit left them with too much to do in an eventual 23-12 loss to Leinster in the return encounter at CIT, while they finished the competition with a 16-12 loss to Ulster in Belfast.

Playing just one game during the Interprovincial window, the Munster U-20/Development side claimed a 29-21 win over Ulster at Thomond Park.

Con event a winner

The Munster Rugby Development Department recently held an IRFU Stage 1 Coaching Course in Cork Constitution FC.

As with the previous week's course in Thomond Park, the event was full to capacity with 46 coaches from a variety of clubs in the South Munster area in attendance and emphasised the key 'FUNdamentals' of coaching mini rugby from U-7s to U-12s.

The core focus at this stage is the development of coaching competencies in the areas of running, passing, catching, tackling and identifying the key principles of 'Go Forward' and 'Support' play.

The course also emphasises the development of Rugby Prime as a non-contact modified game for U-7s to U-12s with scrum and lineouts during later stages of mini rugby.
