Fans pick O'Mahony as Player of the Year

Peter O'Mahony has been voted the Munster Rugby men's Player of the Year.

O'Mahony, 29, was chosen as the winner - as voted by the public - ahead of his team-mates Tadhg Beirne and Joey Carbery.

In association with the Irish Independent and hosted at University of Limerick Concert Hall on Tuesday night, the winners of 11 separate award categories were revealed.

Dan Goggin was voted as the Munster Rugby Young Player of the Year. Irish U-20 Grand Slam star Craig Casey, was awarded the Munster Rugby Greencore Academy Player of the Year award.

Clubs as well as individuals had their efforts recognised too, with UL Bohemians RFC, Cobh Pirates RFC, Mallow RFC and Highfield RFC winning the Mini Section, Youth Section, Junior Club and Senior Club awards respectively.

Christian Brothers Cork are Munster Rugby School of the Year, Rob O'Sullivan is Munster Rugby Referee of the Year award, while Ciara Griffin won the Munster Rugby female Player of the Year award. 

The most raucous reception of the evening was reserved for legendary former Munster player Donal Lenihan, who was inducted into the Munster Rugby Hall of Fame after a glittering career.
