Erasmus sounds very much like a man already on his way out

According to Rassie Erasmus, rumour linking him with a return to South Africa "is really speculation"

And the former Springbok continued: "When something is really definite I will tell you guys. South Africa is close to my heart and I talk to them daily. It is not an issue at this stage".

If I were a betting man, I would be putting every last rand on Munster's main man following his Connacht equivalent Pat Lam and triggering his early release clause. Quite why contracts exist at all is beyond me.

The key line in his comments, and sting in the tail, is the final few words suggesting it is "not an issue at this stage".

It smacks of a man already on his way. And if not, then I repeat what I suggested on Saturday: why not nail his colours firmly to the mast and confirm his intention to stay? What a boost for everyone that would be.

In the short while that he's been in this country, Erasmus has (along with Jacques Nienaber) been to Munster what Stuart Lancaster has been at Leinster.

I watched Nienaber closely on Saturday and his coaching interaction with the players up close and personal is even more impressive again.

As the great Willie Duggan used put it, it's "time to s**t or get off the pot".
