Dolphin aiming to pull clear at top with home triumph

Declan Rooney

Cork Con, Dolphin and Young Munster will be hoping to pull clear of their Division 1A rivals at the top of the table when the round-three action gets under way this weekend.

As the only one of the three with a home game this weekend, Dolphin will be targeting a better result than their rivals when they take on Clontarf at Musgrave Park.

And with Cork Con away to Old Belvedere and Young Munster travelling to champions Lansdowne, they have a great chance to pull clear.

With two defeats to their name already, Garryowen will hope to pick up their first points of the campaign when an unbeaten UCD side visit Dooradoyle tomorrow.

In Division 1B, Shannon's lack of a win to date in their first season outside of the top flight has stunned people and they don't face an easy task with their clash against Dungannon at Coonagh tomorrow.

UL Bohs got off the mark last time out against Belfast Harlequins and a trip to face fourth-placed Malone affords them the chance to build on that victory.

Meanwhile, in Division 2A an intriguing Cork derby takes place tonight (7.30) as UCC and Highfield face off at the Mardyke.

After their victory over Bective, the students will be favourites.

Tomorrow, Bruff take on Bective Rangers, Cashel face a tough home game with Galwegians, while Old Crescent welcome Rainey Old Boys to Rosbrien.

Elsewhere, in Division 2B, Nenagh Ormond should manage to add to their perfect 10 points total as they take on bottom side Sundays Well.

Meanwhile, the Limerick derby clash of Thomond and Richmond, and Midleton's tie with Suttonians, are expected to go the way of the home sides.

All games take place at 2.30 tomorrow, unless otherwise stated.
