MUNSTER centre James Downey will be rested this weekend -- having played through the pain barrier with a broken hand for the last number of weeks.

Downey, who signed from Northampton during the summer, won't feature for the visit of Zebre in a bid to give his injury time to heal, but starlet JJ Hanrahan will be handed his first start for the province when the team is named today.

The Currow youngster has made rapid progress in recent months and with the province's Ireland contingent seconded to autumn international duty, he is expected to start at No 10 in what is sure to be a daunting first experience of Thomond Park for the Italians.
