Munster awards night helps cancer fund

The recent Munster Rugby Awards not only honoured rugby achievements in the province, but also successfully raised €8,105 for the Mercy Hospital's Men's Rapid Access Cancer Clinic.

The event, sponsored by the Irish Independent, was held earlier this month at the Maryborough Hotel & Spa in Cork. Guests included the Munster team and the Mercy Hospital Foundation's chief executive Micheál Sheridan. All profits have been donated to the Mercy Hospital's Men's Rapid Access Cancer Clinic.

Munster CEO Garrett Fitzgerald said: "Munster Rugby are delighted to have helped with the Mercy Hospital Foundation's fundraising for the Men's Rapid Access Cancer Clinic.

"We would like to thank everyone who supported the Munster Rugby Awards and gave so generously in these challenging times."

Speaking at the cheque presentation by members of the Munster team at CIT recently, Sheridan said: "We are delighted with the association between the Mercy Hospital Foundation and Munster Rugby. We are very grateful for their generous support, which demonstrates not only their commitment to men's health, but also to providing essential services for men with prostate and testicular cancer in Munster."
