Matt O'Connor on IRFU: You didn’t get the access to the players that you would have liked
In the first in-depth interview since he left Leinster, Matt O’Connor reveals in tomorrow’s Herald that his main regret is that he will not get to work with a real game-changer in Jonathan Sexton.
“That will be the most disappointing aspect about not being here next season because he is genuinely world-class,” said the Australian.
“What Johnny can deliver for the team and the environment and the group is something very special.”
Speaking about his relationship with the IRFU, O’Connor says: “You didn’t get the access to the players that you would have liked in the sense that you would have liked to have spent more time with them. They are a fantastic group. You just would have liked a bit more continuity to mould them and shape them and see where we ended up.”
