Masters does trick the for CBC Cork against Rockwell
CBC Cork 33 Rockwell College 15
Prop Luke Masters bagged a quickfire hat-trick as CBC produced a dominant second-half performance to claim victory against Rockwell College at Lansdowne yesterday.
For much of the first half, the sides were evenly matched as Rockwell enjoyed the benefits of an early try.
By half-time, the hosts had assumed the upper hand, however, and they made the most of their superiority after the resumption.
Masters was the hero, scoring a hat-trick in the second period as they secured a home quarter-final draw against Ardscoil Ris.
Rockwell made a dream start as Ryan O’Sullivan intercepted a pass to score a try inside two minutes, converting also, but that was as good as it got for the visitors.
With their pack making a strong impression at the breakdown and in scrums, Christians began to exert their dominance.
Flanker Finn Burke made a great break from deep to score their first try, and though Robert Hedderman failed to convert, prop Robert Loftus added another try soon after that to give the Cork school the lead.
Hedderman added the extras to make it 12-7.
While O’Sullivan did get a Rockwell try before half-time to cut the gap to just two points, the second half was all Christians.
Masters found his groove as he touched down three times in the space of 15 minutes, with Hedderman adding the extras each time.
With the outcome decided, both sides emptied their benches. Scrum-half Oisin Mangan did manage to get over for a Rockwell try in injury-time, but it was little more than a consolation.
