There were joyous scenes at the Kingspan Stadium this afternoon as three Ulstermen were named in Warren Gatland's 41-man Lions squad for this summer's tour of New Zealand.

The Ulster squad were eating lunch during the live announcement and reacted with delight as names of Rory Best, Jared Payne and Rory Best were read out.

Best's inclusion was well signposted but the selection of Payne and Henderson was less obvious.

They join with other Irishmen in the squad including five from Leinster, Jack McGrath, Tadhg Furlong, Sean O'Brien, Johnny Sexton and Robbie Henshaw, and the Munster players, CJ Stander, Peter O'Mahony and Conor Murray.

Speaking to Ulster Rugby's YouTube channel, Henderson revealed that he only learned of his inclusion while watching the announcement on TV.

"Delighted. I was really a bit shaken at the time but I'm immensely proud now and I'm looking forward to finishing off a good season with Ulster and really looking forward to the summer tour.

"(I found out via) Sky Sports like everyone else, believe it or not. It was quite shocking, I wasn't sure whether to be checking my phone, or checking the TV or looking at my emails.

"The boys were all watching it up there while eating their lunch. I'm glad they all cheered for me

"Rory obviously brings experience from previous tours and Jared is also a vastly experienced player. I'm looking forward to getting to know a load of other world class players and players I've only ever played against."
