This is the greatest kick in the b****x Brian could ever get
FORMER Ireland star Ronan O’Gara has described Brian O’Driscoll’s shock omission from the Lions squad for tomorrow’s crunch game against Australia as “the greatest kick in the b****x he could ever get”.
In his column in today’s ‘Irish Examiner’ newspaper, the former Munster outhalf described the decision to drop O’Driscoll in favour of Wales centre Jonathan Davies as “unfathomable”.
O’Gara revealed that he rang his long-time Ireland captain on Wednesday after Warren Gatland’s selection was made public – and described the Leinster man as “choked”.
“It’s the greatest kick in the b****x he could ever get. Horrific,” O’Gara said.
“He has to live with that now. Threw will be a captain’s meeting today and he was probably preparing a speech for that from Monday. And then he gets the tap on the shoulder from Warren.”
O’Gara was himself dropped from the Ireland squad during this year’s Six Nations campaign, and his since retired from playing to take up a coaching position in France.
“So I absolutely get what has happened to Brian, but he won’t fully comprehend it until he emerges from the Lions bubble – whether that’s on holiday this summer or perhaps even in 12 months’ time when he finishes with rugby altogether,” he writes in the ‘Irish Examiner’.
He added that he didn’t believe O’Driscoll had a poor game in the Second Test – and added that while the fit-again Jamie Roberts should be in tomorrow’s team, it should have been at the expense of Davies.
