Life without Jonathan Sexton:

"Knowing Joe Schmidt, he's probably already making plans of how to best use the skills of Ian Madigan. It's not ideal to lose Jonny but Joe will have a plan."

Contract negotiations with IRFU:

"Personally, from a player's perspective you'd like to tie these things up earlier. Negotiating contracts is stressful. It's not something you want hanging over your head when you're playing, when you're going into a Six Nations series. That's the way it's always been done and we've learned to deal with it."

Being a tighthead prop:

"We have two people going after us in every scrum, the hooker and the loosehead. It's up to us to figure out ways to deal with that. It is a group effort but it all starts with the initial hit from the tighthead."

How to solve the dearth of props in Ireland:

"Change the rules at schools' level. If schools' teams are not allowed to push more than a metre the coach will invariably lean towards a player who is better around the field because scrummaging isn't important."
