Winners all round during Mullingar blitz in the sun

The girls show their enjoyment after the Mullingar blitz

With a lucky break in the weather Mullingar Rugby Club hosted a secondary schools girls blitz run by local CCRO David Farrelly.

The blitz came hot on the heels of another recent major success by the Mullingar Ladies team when they won the Paul Flood Cup, completing a league and cup double.

The girls of the local schools turned out to display their own array of skills. The four schools that attended were St Finians College, Loreto College, Mullingar Community College and Wilson's Hospital.

Each team had three 20-minute games and so got to play each other once.

The scores came thick and fast as the quality of rugby on show was of a very high standard. No scores were kept as the day was about enjoyment and participation. However this did not blunt the edge of the competitiveness of the girls. The day ended with a small treat for all the participants.

A good day was had by all, so much so that it was requested that another blitz be held. Watch this space.
