Wicklow Rugby's Mini squads travelled in force to County Carlow making the long trip cross country to take on hosts, Carlow RFC and Arklow RFC in the rescheduled South East Blitz last Saturday.

Despite the howling wind and rain, the Wicklow players made light of the challenging conditions fielding teams to play both sides.

It was a close call for coaches and officials to decide whether the blitz would go ahead.

This blitz had already been postponed two weeks agao due to bad weather. Fortunately they called it right and the players seemed to relish the challenge of playing in the tough conditions.

The Wicklow coaches were very proud of the turnout and commitment from their players and the way their teams played in such conditions, putting into practice what they had learned in training. The teams retired to the clubhouse for some welcomed refreshments afterwards. Wicklow thanked all at Oak Park Road for being excellent hosts.

The Wicklow Minis Girls were due to travel to Seapoint RFC on Sunday for a Mini Girls rugby festival. Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, the festival was called off.

Next weekend Wicklow's U-11s will travel to Old Wesley RFC for a Metro match.

The Wicklow U-12s play Lansdowne RFC at home in Ashtown Lane.

The U-9s will host St Brigid's RFC in a return fixture in what is expected to be a close encounter.

All other Mini squads will train on Saturday at 10.0 in Ashtown Lane, Wicklow.
