Sevens up for blitz in Blackrock

On a sunny Wednesday afternoon five schools entered into the first annual first-year Sevens blitz in Blackrock rugby club.

The blitz was devised by Leinster CCRO Stephen Costelloe and members of the Blackrock coaching staff in order to get more players in schools playing rugby.

It was aimed at players in the lower-level teams in schools to show off their skills in a cup competition and to bring home a trophy for their respective school.

Newpark, St Andrews, Willow Park, Sandford Park and CBC Monkstown all came down and each game was played at a fast pace and with great sportsmanship.

Newpark eventually won a very tight competition by one point and are already talking about their chances retaining of their title next year.

Leinster centre Brendan Macken was on hand to present the winners with their trophy, also to talk to the guys and advise them on any questions they have with regard to playing the game.

Blackrock are always looking for new players whether it be at a low or high level of playing ability and would well all new recruits down to training on a Sunday morning at 11:30 in Stradbrook.

Also if there are any schools interested in getting involved please get in touch with Stephen on either 0879844168 or blackrockccro@leinsterrugby.ie
