Scott Penny shines on debut as Leinster rout Ospreys in seven-try victory
Leinster 52 Ospreys 7
LEINSTER shrugged off a lethargic start to decorate the evening with a bonus-point, seven-try win to stay in charge of Conference B of the PRO14 at the RDS last night.
In the beginning, the Welsh looked like posing a serious threat as their out-half Sam Davies pulled Leinster apart from set-piece moves. Leinster were lucky to escape with just flesh wounds.
The clinical nature of the home side came to light from their first attack, Ciarán Frawley and Scott Fardy combining to allow centre Conor O’Brien to saunter home.
Frawley then stroked a penalty and Scott Penny, on his debut, punched in a try at the end of a maul.
When the Ospreys did finally translate their potential into points, it was rubbed out when referee Marius Mitrea spotted John Kotze had knocked over Noel Reid off the ball.
That was the signal for Leinster scrum-half Nick McCarthy to stretch over and Frawley made it 24-0 at the break.
The bonus point was next on the checklist and it arrived without too much resistance from lock Fardy.
The determination to keep a clean sheet was just as strong, Ed Byrne jumping on a loose ball when a maul had been turned back.

It wasn’t long before replacement Hugh O’Sullivan was cutting through, for prop Byrne to notch the fifth try, converted by Frawley.
Jack Kelly became the third new cap just before Max Deegan sprinted over and hooker Bryan Byrne slid home ahead of Hanno Dirksen’s consolation try.
