Wicklow's U-7 squad travelled to De La Salle Palmerston, Kilternan last Sunday to play in the annual Kieran Burke festival. The festival, now in its 13th year, featured over 50 teams from all over Leinster.
Two Wicklow teams took part and both played five matches each.
Wicklow fielded two mixed ability teams in this non-competitive blitz with the focus on fun, running rugby.
Special thanks to all at DLSP RFC for hosting this very well-run event
Next week Wicklow's Minis host Wexford Wanderers and Rathdrum at Ashtown Lane for South East Blitz.
Balbriggan schools have completed a play rugby programme where many participants had not experienced the game before but were really looking forward to playing in the blitz.
During the course of the programme, pupils from the Naul NS, Stamullen National School, Balrothery National School and Hedgestown NS had learnt all the skills necessary to play the game.
The morning kicked off and it was a dry but cold day but it didn't matter as everyone had smiles on their faces playing the game. It was a third class blitz which was played in great spirit with all the children really enjoying the day and learning some new skills.
All the matches were tightly contested and prizes went to all pupils who participated.
CCRO Glenn Predy said: "Everyone really enjoyed themselves so hopefully we have a few new Balbriggan players, it would be great to get them down as there is so much talent."
A massive thank you must go to all the referees, teachers and principals for their help on the day and during the programme. Also, to Balbriggan Rugby Club for allowing the use of their facilities for the morning and the coaching work done by Glenn Predy of Leinster Rugby throughout.
If any other schools in the Balbriggan area would like to participate in similar programmes, please contact Glenn Predy on 086 3994839 or email on balbrigganCCRO@leinsterrugby.ie
