Leinster Club news: DEBRA grateful for fans' generosity

A massive thank you to all the Leinster (and Connacht!) supporters who attended the RDS last Saturday evening and supported DEBRA Ireland.

DEBRA Ireland is one of Leinster's two charity partners, and the Connacht game was their home match take-over.

Everyone involved was overwhelmed by the support and the generosity on show and it was a great night and a fitting way of remembering the late Liam Hagan.

Tag blitz a triumph

Last Thursday, 260 students from across Dublin 15 attended the second Tag Rugby Blitz of the season in Westmanstown RFC.

6th class students from Castaheany ET (Ongar), St Patrick's NS (Diswellstown) and Mary Mother of Hope (Littlepace) filled the field on a wonderful morning.

With teams made up of seven students per side, the day went off without a hitch. The highlight was the veritable feast of skills on show with tries galore and hundreds of satisfied smiling faces marking the end of a brilliant five weeks Tag Rugby module.

A huge thanks to Leinster Rugby's Fingal Community staff for their help.

Kids’ fun in Coolmine

Last Tuesday, Coolmine RFC played host to 100 kids from St Vincent's Primary and Castleknock NS in a tag rugby blitz.

Even though it was a cold and early start to the day, a great day was had by all.

Children from 5th and 6th classes from these two local schools competed in some entertaining and hard-fought matches.

After only a few matches the level of improvement and competition was noticeable.

A combined effort from coaches, teachers and volunteers made it a great day. This is the second blitz that has taken place in the previous few months and interest continues to grow.

It is hoped that pupils from the area will continue to carry on playing within the community and for their local club side, Coolmine RFC.

If anyone is interested in getting involved in rugby in the Coolmine/Castleknock area, contact Mikey Russell at or on 0830051956.
