The sides have been in scintillating form, both in the Guinness PRO14 and the Champions Cup, in which both sides have won four from four.

Ulster, in a pool with Clermont, Harlequins and Bath, sit top by virtue of their win over the French club at Kingspan Stadium.

Many of the plaudits for their start to the season have gone to former Leinster man John Cooney, who has 54 points in four European games, second only to Northampton’s Dan Biggar.

The former Leinster scrum-half was also one of the players named in the provisional Ireland squad that will be gathering this weekend at the IRFU High Performance Centre ahead of the Six Nations.

Will Addison, Billy Burns, John Cooney, Iain Henderson, Rob Herring, Stuart McCloskey, Marty Moore, Tom O’Toole and Jacob Stockdale have also received the nod, a clear sign of the positive performances that Dan McFarland’s side have been putting in so far this season.

This battle at the top of Conference A is one of the fixtures of the round.
