Everyone was in high spirits recently as more than 200 boys and girls converged on Balbriggan RFC for their eagerly-anticipated primary school tag rugby blitz.

The schools involved had just completed a Play Rugby programme where many had not experienced the game before but were looking forward to playing in the blitz.

At the end of the programme, pupils from Balbriggan Educate Together, Balrothery National School and Balscadden National School had learned the skills necessary to play the game.

It was a sixth-class blitz which was played in great spirits - with the children enjoying the day and learning new skills.

Leinster Rugby Club Community Rugby Office Glenn Predy said: "Some of the players playing today had amazing skills and really seemed to enjoy themselves."

A massive thank you must go to all the referees, teachers and principals for their help on the day and during the programme. Also, to Balbriggan Rugby Club for allowing the use of their facilities for the morning and the coaching work done by Glenn Predy.

If any other schools in the Balbriggan area would like to participate in similar programmes please contact Glenn Predy on 086 3994839 or email on
