Nearly 300 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class boys and girls from four schools in the local area took part in a pre-Christmas tag rugby blitz in Skerries rugby club.

While the rain had initially threatened to wash out the day, it held off and although muddy and tired after, everyone enjoyed their run-out with some good handling and running skills on display.

All the kids had recently taken part in the Leinster Rugby six-week Tag programme, and certainly showcased some of the lessons they learned.

The programme focuses on giving kids a chance to try the game in a safe and fun environment. All kids and teachers embraced the idea of it and will be continuing rugby in their PE curriculum. All the hard work in the schools was evident to see on the day with laughing and celebrations galore.

Skerries CCRO Andy Carabini thanked all the teachers, pupils, his fellow Leinster Fingal CCROs, club volunteers and the club for the use of the facilities which all contributed to a very enjoyable morning.

If anyone in the area is interested in joining the rugby club they can contact Andy on 085 1000647 or at
