As Leinster out-half Johnny Sexton continues to struggle to find his best form since his return from France, former team-mate Brian O’Driscoll believes the play-maker would reap the benefits from a break.

Sexton had one of his poorest outings in Toulon last time out as Leo Cullen’s side all but ended their hopes of reaching the knock-out stages of the Champions Cup and the Ireland number 10 looks a pale shadow of his normal reassured self.

Speaking on Newstalk’s Off The Ball, O’Driscoll said a rest could make a huge difference while also adding that Sexton will be deeply analysing all facets of his game as he looks to emerge in his personal slump.

“I think he could do worse than giving him a break now,” he said.

“I know Johnny well he's such an intense person and he takes his rugby so, so seriously, he's one of the best professionals out there. It has a major effect on his mood throughout the week, how well the team's going and how well he's going personally, so I wouldn't say he's great to live with at the moment."

The three-time European champions host the Top 14 side in the Aviva Stadium this evening.
