Battling Edenderry fall just short

Mullingar Newsdesk Newsdesk

Edenderry U-13s suffered defeat in the Leinster U-13 Cup competition at the hands of Mullingar on their fabulous 3G astro pitch.

Edenderry were left to rue a slow start. A determined Mullingar side took full advantage and found themselves 12-0 up at half-time having played all the rugby.

Despite some great runs from Kian O'Reilly, Ryan Dempsey and Mark Coffey, Edenderry just could not make a breakthrough.

In the second half Edenderry dominated possession for long periods, with Callum Hanna and Jamie Hennesey leading the way with excellent driving runs, helped by ferocious tackling from Mark Dunne.

Edenderry moved ball across the backline with Ben O'Donnell feeding his backs very well and great ground was made by Cian Murphy, David Hill and Aaron McNally and Conor Dunne.

Eventually Edenderry's much-improved second half performance was rewarded with a try by the excellent Luke McNamee after great work by the forwards.

With the introduction of Sean Owens and Jason Kerrigan who lifted the pace of the team, Edenderry went after another score but just could not get over the line.

Congratulations to Mullingar on their victory and best of luck for the rest of this competition. The teams meet again this Saturday in the league in Edenderry.
