Leinster put an end to racism row

THE racism row that emerged after Leinster's defeat to Northampton on Friday night has been put down to a misunderstanding, WRITES RUADHRI O'CONNOR.

South African duo Heinke van der Merwe and Steven Sykes were accused of calling Zimbabwean-born, former Springbok Brian Mujati a "baboon" during the Donnybrook clash.

The prop took to Twitter to air his grievances, but after an internal investigation and exchange between the clubs the matter has been settled.

The tweets have since been deleted and a Leinster statement confirmed the matter has been settled.

"Following the allegations made by a Northampton Saints player in the aftermath of Friday night's friendly , Leinster Rugby acknowledge that there was an exchange during the match between two Leinster players which was misinterpreted," astatement said.
