Jackman exits Clontarf stage

BERNARD JACKMAN has stepped down from his position as head coach of Clontarf for "professional development reasons", it was confirmed yesterday.

The former Leinster and Ireland hooker guided the Dublin club back into Division 1A of the AIL this season but says he now wants to move abroad to further his coaching career, although it is not clear whether Jackman has secured a position elsewhere.

It ends a 14-year playing and coaching association with the club and Jackman says the decision was taken "with regret".

"My goal is to coach at the highest levels," he said, "and this is my window of opportunity to travel overseas to experience other professional sporting organisations and learn from their cultures and training methods and improve my skill set."
