Irish survive title scare
IRELAND were confirmed as U-20 Six Nations champions despite an impressive win for second-placed England over France yesterday writes Donnchadh Boyle.
Thanks to Allen Clarke's side's impressive win over Scotland in Athlone on Friday night, England needed to win by 47 points to snatch the title from Ireland's grasp.
Ireland could have been forgiven for feeling a little nervous as the Roses ran in a brace of converted tries inside the first 12 minutes.
However, England failed to build on that early momentum and, despite touching down five times in total, they could only manage a 47-31 win over the home side, thereby handing Ireland the title.
