Ireland 'hopeful more than confident' on sexton
JONATHAN SEXTON'S daily injury update has the out-half listed as "less than 50-50" for the France game, WRITES CONOR GEORGE.
Earlier this week, Sexton (right) was reportedly quietly confident of his chances of being fit. That prognosis changes on a daily basis as the player responds to his daily physio treatments. He is, though, back jogging this week.
"We are hopeful more than confident with regard to the prospects of Jonathan's availability," said team manager Mick Kearney. "We will continue to monitor him on a daily basis and see how he responds to the step up in activity and training."
Donnacha Ryan is confident he will be fit for the France game despite suffering a bruised shoulder in the loss to Scotland. This came on top of a previous back complaint and, while the management are remaining cautious, the lock will be fit.
The prognosis on Mike McCarthy is also positive, with Kearney revealing that he is now listed as having a better than 50-50 chance of being available for Saturday week's game.
Craig Gilroy will also be available for selection. He strained his groin against Scotland and is rehabbing but is expected to train fully next week.
There are a number of potential starters and squad players in Pro12 action tonight and tomorrow, and the squad will re-assemble in Carton House on Sunday evening.
