Welsh paper says only five Irish players would make Warren Gatland’s Wales
Ireland may be aiming for their third Six Nations title on the trot, but Wales Online has composed a Dream Team selection between the two countries and it features just five members of Joe Schmidt’s squad.
Composite teams are always contentious in nature, and with Paul O’Connell’s international retirement and injuries to Peter O’Mahony, Cian Healy and Tommy Bowe, the Irish representation was always likely to diminish somewhat.
However Andy Howell reckons just five Irish players would make the current Welsh team.
Rob Kearney, Jonathan Sexton, Conor Murray, Rory Best and Marty Moore are the only men in green to get the nod.
Given Alex Cuthbert’s dramatic loss in form, Jonathan Davies only returning from injury and Robbie Henshaw’s performances over the last 12 months, some of Warren Gatland’s men were given tentative nods over their Irish counterparts, while there is no Irish representation in the second row or back row.
