Connacht lock Quinn Roux has been selected over teammate Ultan Dillane for the Ireland squad that will travel to the US and Japan for the June Summer Tour.

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt had named his 31-man squad for the summer tour last Tuesday, but accompanied the squad announcement with the provision that he would add an additional player to the squad following the weekend's PRO 12 semi-finals and Champions Cup play-off.

After naming just three locks (James Ryan, Devin Toner and Kieran Treadwell) in his initial squad, the additional player to be added was tipped to be Ultan Dillane, who made his return to rugby on Sunday after two months on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.

The Ireland international played 32 minutes off the bench in Connacht's 21-15 loss to Northampton on Saturday with Roux playing the full game after starting in the second-row alongside James Cannon.

Schmidt's 32 man squad will travel to New Jersey on the 5th June ahead of their opening Test match against the USA Eagles before flying to Japan for two Tests against the Brave Blossoms.
