Joe Schmidt has yet to announce whether he will remain in the Ireland job after next summer but one report has the national head coach on the verge of making fans very happy.

Schmidt's current deal runs out next summer, with the former Leinster boss having been linked with various Super Rugby jobs in his native New Zealand, but Chris Foy of the Daily Mail is now reporting that he will sign a new two year extension to stay in Ireland.

If that contract comes to pass, it will mean that Schmidt will lead the Ireland team to the next World Cup in Japan in 2019.

Since taking charge of the national team, Schmidt has guided Ireland to two Six Nations titles and the quarter-final of the 2015 World Cup.

Prior to that, he won two Heineken Cups, a Pro12 and an Amlin Challenge cup as the Leinster head coach.
