Jared Payne has emerged as a doubt for Ireland's series decider against South Africa after he sat out training in Port Elizabeth yesterday.

The full-back didn't finish Saturday's defeat to the Springboks and Ireland have described his apparent injury as "cramp".

Scrum coach Greg Feek confirmed that "a couple" of players didn't train at Nelson Mandela University as Ireland manage the squad's load for the final game of the season.

Tiernan O'Halloran could make his first start for Ireland if Payne does not recover in time to be named in the team tomorrow.

CJ Stander is almost certain to come back into the side after his one-week ban, while Jordi Murphy could return with Iain Henderson relocating to the second-row, with Ultan Dillane likely to come on to the bench.

Mike Ross is expected to be recalled, while Luke Marshall is also likely to come back into the team.
