Ireland Women's 7s' sides hopes of reaching the Tokyo Olympics next year have been ended.

They suffered 17-7 loss to England this morning in the quarter-final of the Rugby Europe Olympic Qualifier in Kazan.

Only the winners of the tournament would book their place in Japan in 2020, while second and third place in Kazan get one final chance to get there at next summer's World Repechage.

Ireland trailed by 7-5 at the interval and Stan McDowell's charges couldn't bridge the gap in the second half.
