Luke Fitzgerald and Neil Francis are both predicting that Ireland will win the 2018 Six Nations - but neither think that a Grand Slam is likely.

Ireland have only done a clean sweep twice - the last time in 2009 when Fitzgerald was on the wing - and are 7/2 to do it for a third time this year.

Despite entering the competition as second favourites behind England, optimism is growing that Ireland could deny Eddie Jones' side a third title in-a-row.

Speaking on The Left Wing Live in association with Aer Lingus, Fitzgerald gave his tournament prediction - which would make for a dramatic conclusion if it comes to pass.

"I think it will be Ireland," Fitzgerald said.

"I have a feeling England will have a hiccup along the way but beat us [in the final game] and the bonus point against Italy [for Ireland] will be crucial."

Francis agreed with the Fitzgerald overall winner, but isn't as confident that Joe Schmidt's side will get over the line.

"To win five matches, it is very difficult to do it," Francis said.

"This [game vs France] sets us up and if we win, we can win four in-a-row so huge amount riding on it. With no confidence, Ireland. A Grand Slam is something special, it comes along like Halley's Comet."
