Independent.ie Rugby Panel discuss Rob Penney’s departure from Munster

Eyebrows were raised last week when Munster announced that head coach Rob Penney is to leave Munster at the end of the season.

The New Zealander has seen a huge overhaul of playing personnel since taking over from Tony McGahan and his side were close to reaching a Heineken Cup Final last year in Dublin.

Despite increased consistency this season and a home Heineken Cup quarter-final to look forward to, Penney has decided not to take up the option for a third year and will pursue a coaching role in Japan.

The Independent.ie panel of Declan Whooley, Ruaidhri O’Connor and Tony Ward discuss Penney’s departure and who is likely to take over the reins.
