It took an injury-time try from Skerries Community College flanker Dean Harford to subdue East Glendalough in this section 'A' encounter at Templeville Road yesterday.
The fact that the Dublin side's clincher came so late was a testament to the magnificent resistance of the Wicklow boys and their insistence on playing a ball-in-hand, expansive brand of rugby against the more streetwise approach adopted by Skerries.
The winners, however, had the better chances and more kicks at goal.
Their lock Liam Quinn-Hegarty crashed over the line in the 40th minute to carve out a lead that was eaten into by out-half Shane Farrar's excellent strike from the left at the start of the final quarter.
Captain Robbie Jenkinson restored the five-point gap from 18 metres and Harford's upper body strength was enough to secure the injury-time insurance try.
