Luke McGrath is relishing the opportunity to reignite his half-back partnership with Johnny Sexton as the Lions out-half gets set to return to action against Edinburgh on Friday.

Sexton hasn't played since the third Lions Test in the summer but is in the frame along with Seán O'Brien, Jack McGrath, Tadhg Furlong and Robbie Henshaw.

"I was working with him before South Africa, he's looking sharp, barking out orders," McGrath laughed. "He's very excited to get back, I'm sure all the Lions are."

McGrath is looking to build on an impressive last season in which he won his first international cap against Canada and with another November series looming large, his sights are firmly set on adding to his tally (4). "Last season was great for my development, getting capped and then I ended up getting my first start in Japan which was a great experience," the former St Michael's student enthused.

"I look back on it with a lot of brilliant memories but it's time to push on. It gives you a taste for how enjoyable it is playing those international games. You just want more of it.

"It's definitely a goal but the only way I'll get picked in November is if I play well with Leinster. There are massive games coming up so there are a lot of opportunities there. It's incredibly exciting."

First up however is Edinburgh:

"They're always physical, always really good at the breakdown and that's an area we haven't been that great on this year."
