Connacht's top-six hopes dealt blow by late try
Glasgow 35 Connacht 24
Connacht's top-six aspirations took a massive blow in Scotstoun as Glasgow Warriors clinched an unlikely bonus-point win after they were bossed for long periods.
Tim Swinson was sent off 15 minutes from time for Warriors, and John Cooney looked to have given Connacht hope with a late penalty, but Sean Lamont's try two minutes from time saw Gregor Townsend's team clinch the win.
With an artificial surface and a dry ball to play with, Connacht looked right at home before the break as they showed some of the play that led them to last year's Pro12 title.
But they only led 15-13 at half-time, thanks to tries from Niyi Adeolokun and John Muldoon, and the stats made for remarkable reading, such was the dominance of Pat Lam's side.
After 40 minutes, Glasgow had made 117 tackles to Connacht's 21, while the Irish side dominated with 83 per cent of possession. Crucially though, Warriors made the most of their 17 per cent.
Five minutes in, a good show-and-go from Tiernan O'Halloran freed Adeolokun to score in the right corner, but that score was followed by a Finn Russell penalty and a try from Corey Flynn in the 12th minute. Russell's conversion made it 10-5 to the home side.
After Craig Ronaldson closed the gap to two from the tee, Connacht retook the lead after 20 minutes when Muldoon scored in the corner on the back of two great linebreaks from locks Quinn Roux and Andrew Browne.
Russell's penalty made it 15-13 at the interval, but Ronaldson was on the mark after a great break from O'Halloran to put five between the teams.
Russell crossed for Glasgow after 50 minutes and converted his own try to give Glasgow the lead again, and Ali Price then danced over, while Connacht were reduced to 14 players after Jack Carty's sin-binning. And late on, Lamont ended Connacht's hopes with his late try.
