A red card for Rockwell's Tommy Anglim midway through the second half proved costly as Castletroy scored a late converted try to upset last year's beaten finalists at Clanwilliam in the Munster Schools Senior Cup.

Anglim was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident in front of the touch judge.

Ten minutes later, a moment of brilliance from John Fox won the game for Castletroy as the 14 men ran out of steam.

Castletroy started the brighter and opened the scoring through a Conor Linehan penalty, but poor discipline allowed Aidan Moynihan to put Rockwell into a 6-3 lead with two penalties in four minutes.

Castletroy continued to have the upper hand and made their pressure count when a well-worked maul from a five-metre line-out ended with Conor Humphreys burrowing over cleverly from close range after 15 minutes.

The Limerick school were then reduced to 14 players when David Garry was sent to the sin bin, but Moynihan couldn't capitalise as his penalty drifted wide.

There was still time left in the half for Castletroy to extend their lead as they crossed for their second try of the afternoon through David Rowsome, which left them 13-6 in front at the break.

Rockwell did cross for a try coming up to the midpoint of the second half through David O'Dwyer, which Moynihan converted to level the scores, but Anglim's red card five minutes later swung the momentum back in Castletroy's favour, which was emphasised when Fox picked up the ball inside his own half before dancing passed five defenders on his way to touching down under the posts. Linehan added the easy extras to seal a home quarter-final for Castletroy.
