Four Connacht-based players took part in a three-day training camp with the Ireland Men's Sevens squad in Portugal last weekend.

Ed O'Keeffe and Conor Lowndes of the NUIG Connacht Rugby Academy and Galwegians were selected alongside Buccaneers duo Shane Layden and Jordan Conroy (top try-scorer in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League with 13 tries).

The camp was part of the preparations for the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Series in June and July and the 14-man squad trained with the Portugal and Spain Sevens sides over the three days.

"Players will gain valuable experience from testing themselves against this sort of opposition," said the IRFU's Director of Sevens Rugby Anthony Eddy.
