The Future Is Bright: Jamie Dever (Third year academy)

Jamie Dever (INPHO)

I was born in Mayo. All my family are from Westport and I lived there until I was five years old before I moved to England with my family, where I didn't play any rugby at all.

Back then it was always either basketball, cricket, swimming or football for me.

We then moved to Australia for a year where I did a good bit more swimming, before we moved back to Westport. It was only in Mayo again that I first took up rugby.

I started playing underage with the Bulls and was coached by big Joe Corcoran, who showed me the ropes and got me hooked on the game.

Favourite Connacht game?

There are so many that come to mind but my favourite was when they played Toulon in the European Challenge Cup at the Sportsground back in 2010. We were beaten that day but it was a great game to watch and the first of the big European occasions that I can remember.

Most memorable game I have played in?

The Connacht U-20s interpro against Leinster when we beat them and went on to win the series overall. It was a great experience for all of us on that team.

Favourite ground?

My favourite ground to play in has to be the home of Westport rugby club in Carrowholly. There's no better place to play on a good day. Liberty Stadium in Wales is also one the best stadiums I have played in, but home is where the heart is.
