Connacht coach Pat Lam says his players were "not smart" in confronting the person in possession of Robbie Henshaw's stolen laptop, but refused to condemn their actions.

The Ireland star's car was broken into on Monday of last week and members of the Guinness Pro12 semi-finalists' squad tracked the computer down using the 'Find my Laptop' app, according to the Sunday World.

A group of players, including Bundee Aki and Ireland international Kieran Marmion, confronted the person in possession of the stolen laptop a day later.

Lam refused to say whether any of the players had been disciplined for their part in the event and the Irish Independent understands that no action has been taken despite footage of the incident going viral.

The coach believes the players' response to their team-mate being in trouble was a sign of their spirit, even if he disagrees with their methods.

"It's good to see that the boys look out for each other on and off the field. It wasn't a smart thing to do and the boys know that," he said, before being asked if any disciplinary action was being taken.

"No, that's probably all I have got to say on it really," he replied.

After leading his side to the Pro12 play-offs for the first time, the Connacht head coach has been generating headlines of his own this week, with a number of media outlets in England linking him to the vacancy at Bath.

Lam is contracted with the western province until 2018 and has been touted as a future Ireland coach, but he didn't rule himself out of the running for the Bath job and suggested that there are clauses in his contract that may allow an early release.

"I'm in a job," he said. "I know there's clauses and all that stuff, but ultimately if I look too far ahead you've all sorts going on. Mate, we're in a fickle job, it's professional rugby and you don't know what's around the corner."
