The Connacht Senior League is now in full swing with the province's four senior teams, Galwegians RFC, Galway Corinthians RFC, Buccaneers RFC and Sligo RFC contesting this year's competition.

The first weekend of fixtures saw Corinthians take on Buccaneers in Corinthian Park.

The game was played in fine conditions and saw Buccaneers run out convincing 41-7 winners.

The Buccaneers half-back pairing of Conor McKeon and Graham Lynch were in fine form, with the latter getting in for a try after 20 minutes.

The emphatic victory provided the perfect start for new Buccs head coach Brett Wilkinson.

The second round of fixtures saw Buccaneers take on Galwegians and Corinthians travel to face Sligo. Buccaneers again proved to be convincing winners over Galwegians, winning 73-17

Alan Gaughan scored the first try of the afternoon for the Athlone outfit in the opening 10 minutes.

The game between Sligo and Corinthians proved to be a tighter affair with the home team recording an impressive 25-19 success over their visitors.

The third round of fixtures will be played this weekend with Buccaneers looking to seal the title in Sligo.

Elsewhere Galwegians will host their Galway neighbours at Crowley Park with both sides hoping to register their first victory of the campaign. Both games kick off at 2.30.
