Johnny O'Connor: Super Robbie Henshaw deserves all the accolades

Johnny O'Connor

Robbie Henshaw picked up the Fans' Player of the Year and the Players' Player of the Year at the Connacht Rugby awards ball and he was most certainly deserving of the accolades.

Every time he has pulled on the jersey he has performed for the province and was integral in some of the team's big results this season against the likes of Leinster and Munster.

The fact that he has won both prestigious awards in the same season is a testament to how well Robbie has played because there were many other Connacht players who would have fully merited the gong if they had received it.

Aly Muldowney, who was recognised as Team Man of the Year, has been fantastic this season. Week in, week out, the second-row has delivered a string of consistent performances.

Other players such as Denis Buckley and Matt Healy, who won Forward and Back of the Year respectively, have been real stand-outs this season, putting in some wonderful efforts.

For Robbie to beat off all the other competition to the awards highlights what a phenomenal season he has had and what a real gem Connacht have at 13.
